TOWARDS THE AUTONOMY OF NTFP GROUPS: PEER LEARNING.

This initiative forms part of Component 3 of the GEF-7 project for the integrated management of forest landscapes through NTFP value chains. The meeting brought together 32 representatives from 16 CBOs supported by AAFEBEN in the municipalities of Mintom, Ngoyla and Lomié. The aim of the meeting was to create a framework for dialogue where groups could share their failures, successes and aspirations with a view to mutually improving their best practices for better structuring of value chains and community-based enterprises.
The first day, which brought together the CBOs from the first two value chains, began with a parade showcasing the various groups represented, highlighting their pride in their achievements. This was followed by group discussions on best practices covering topics such as governance, financial management, stock management, etc. Following these discussions, concrete actions emerged that the groups expect from the cooperatives and vice versa. The second day, dedicated exclusively to cooperatives (COTRAMO, CVL and EXPFNL), provided an opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of the central role played by cooperatives in boosting NTFP value chains. Furthermore, the highlight of the day was the clear commitments made by each member to improve the management of their cooperative. It is clear from all this that governance, through its principles, is a powerful lever for the development of these cooperatives.
With this sharing of experience and the implementation of the commitments made by the groups, the NTFP 2026 campaign is sure to be a success that will contribute to the well-being of women and Indigenous Peoples.
